Ice hockey in Braunlage
Ice hockey in Braunlage is since many decades the major sport in the area. Already in the 1970ies, the men’s ice hockey team played as the Winter Sports Club Braunlage (WSV) in the regional league Nord. The ice rink Braunlage is still today training center and competition venue for games both juniors and seniors.
The Braunlage ice hockey has a rich history. Under different names, the Braunlage team played in different leagues. The Braunlage EHC / Harz was a founding member of the resumption of the 2nd Bundesliga in 1998/99. The Harz Wolves played from 2006 to 2010 successfully in the regional league Nord.
Braunlage held in the 1970ies/80ies the Wurmberg Cups, where top teams from the German ice hockey league and international teams from Poland, Sweden, Czechoslovakia and Romania took part and were guests here in Braunlage.
Since 2012 the Harz Falken (hawks) are the official ice hockey team from Braunlage. The 21-member team plays in the upper league Nord. Enjoy the fantastic atmosphere when the hawks play at home.
